Our Signature Artwork

Normally artwork for our journal - the stuff that isn't provided by a real artist - is just photography that has been toyed with in Corel or a similar graphics program. We aren't very concerned with the icing. When we started this program, there was some talk about getting artwork, but it always ended up being passed over for more important things like getting good prices on books.

Since fundraising for this program became a bigger issue, the artwork concept came up yet again. Necessity being the mother of invention, our chairman sat down and did a pencil sketch of a man holding a child who was reaching for books hanging in a tree. The sketch was scanned, and was colored in.

Normally this would be a fairly simple procedure, but there was a six-year-old boy involved as well. He was hopping around saying that he wanted to help his mommy color the pretty picture. So as each section was made ready for coloring, the little boy got the job of clicking the mouse. He also got to choose some of the colors.

We've said many times that RWJ, Inc. is a family company, and the artwork for this program illustrates that better than anything else. Thanks to the folks at CafePress the artwork is available on many items - as well as some items with just print. All get the message across that we need to help our children learn to read, and build reading skills throughout their lives. We hope you enjoy the collaborative "mommy and son" artwork by Elizabeth Ross and Allen, and decide to support our program by wearing or displaying it proudly.
