Karpaz Peninsula

Explore the Karpaz Peninsula from Kyrenia in North Cyprus

Karpaz PeninsulaDescribed as one of the most unspoiled areas in the Mediterranean, the Karpaz Peninsula in Northeastern Cyprus is a true idyllic wilderness. It stretches for some eighty-miles out to sea towards Turkey, the land tapering from the fading eastern reaches of the Kyrenia Mountain Range and Kantara Castle in the west, to Cape Andreas and the Kleides Islands chain at its eastern tip.

From Kyrenia you’ll need to hire a car to explore Karpaz – preferably a 4×4, as some of the roads along the peninsula can be challenging. Kyrenia car hire is best booked in advance of your Karpaz trip to guarantee a suitable vehicle for the terrain.

You should set off from Kyrenia early. It’ll take an hour to get onto the Peninsula and you’ll want a whole day there to fully explore all that Karpaz has to offer.

Ancient landscapes and golden beaches

The Karpaz Peninsula is the least populated area of Cyprus. Its beauty is in its desolation and simplicity of life. There are no hotels and only a handful of villages large enough to support restaurants, bars and some local accommodation.

The people are very friendly. Farming provides their main income as the ground along the Peninsula, away from the mountains, is very fertile. You’ll see many acres of crops being grown here, with farmers using donkeys rather than tractors. It is all quite different in appearance to the area around Kyrenia.

Being bounded by the sea to its north and south, the Karpaz Peninsula is blessed with dozens of fine sandy beaches. Most of them are empty, especially so out of season. You can walk for miles along windswept golden sands and not see another person for hours!

The coastal scenery is truly awesome here, and the view from Cape Andreas, looking back down the Peninsula is awe-inspiring.

While you’re on the Peninsula you might also want to spend a bit of time exploring its historic sites. There are two monasteries and several churches on the Peninsula. One of the churches – Agios Thyrsos – is cut into the rock on the northern coast. With Kantara Castle in the mix too, there sure is plenty to see and do during your visit to the Karpaz Peninsula.

London's Unique Hotels - Dare to Be Different

London’s Unique Hotels – Dare to Be Different

London's Unique Hotels - Dare to Be DifferentMost people have a fixed picture of what a hotel suite looks like-plush beds with satin sheets and fluffy pillows, gleaming chandeliers of iridescent light, ornate crafts displayed on the walls, and intricate tapestries that feed the eyes and boggle the mind, or something along those lines. With over a thousand hotels in London, however, it is of utmost importance to be able to have a different trait or element that will attract travelers. Here are some of the unique hotels in England’s proud capital.

First on the list is The Goring. Completed way back near the end of the Edwardian-era in 1910, The Goring has 71 individually-designed rooms, all with a variety of themes. Now, that’s uniqueness in every suite! The hotel also has a fantastic view that overlooks private gardens and there’s the Garden Bar that is the epitome of ‘al fresco’ dining.

The second featured hotel is the Hoxton Hotel, or the Hoxton Urban Lodge. With a tagline like “Luxury where it matters, Budget where it counts”, it’s pretty much something that catches attention-and it delivers, as rooms can cost as low as a single pound. Yep, true story. The earlier you book, the cheaper rooms cost. Still, it’s an upmarket hotel with luxury as advertised. The best thing about it is that travelers get nothing less than world-class luxury, as can be seen from all the praises garnered by the hotel from guests and reviewers alike. One can’t get value for money like this elsewhere.

If you’re a fan of 18th century style luxury living, then Miller’s Residence is for you. It’s not that imposing with only 5 double bedrooms and 2 salon rooms, but it’s the details in each and every one of those rooms that really capture the 18th century flavor. Rooms are named for famous literary figures of the period, from Browning to Wordsworth, and each have unique intricacies including paintings and antique furnishings that will surely mesmerize any guest. The only catch is that the rooms are a tad pricey, but once one steps inside one of them, one will surely feel that the money was well spent.

The next-and last, for now-hotel on the list draws inspiration from “the warmth and sensuality of the Americas.” The Church Street Hotel in South London fully accomplishes its goal of a Spanish-American theme, thanks to the incredible splashes of vibrant color in each of its rooms. Many also praise the hotel’s fresh breakfast. It’s got a good all-around service and the relative affordability and proximity to vital establishments and to Central London definitely helps the appeal of the hotel.

Even with thousands of different hotels in London, it’s amazing to see many hoteliers coming up with different twists to make their hotels and their services unique and appealing to potential guests. There are many more diamonds in the rough, which may be less-heralded compared to their bigger counterparts but still offer a one-of-a-kind experience for anyone who chooses to book one if their rooms.

JK Capri: Prepare To Get Your Mind Blown

JK Capri: Prepare To Get Your Mind Blown

JK Capri: Prepare To Get Your Mind BlownEvery once in a while a hotel will blow my mind. Words can not do justice to how the JK Place in Capri succeeds in rendering even the most jaded traveler to their knees. There are certain things that we come to expect when we stay at a high-end hotel. Perhaps a great concierge, fantastic amenities or just some personal touches.

Well kids, you’re not in Kansas anymore. The JK Capri is off the hizzle! OK, so here’s the deal. To get to Capri requires you to bring out your inner Christopher Columbus. It’s a bit of planes, trains and automobiles. We flew into Rome, took a train to Naples then grabbed a ferry to Capri. When your ferry arrives, you’re greeted by an Armani suit holding a sign with your name on it. He grabs your bags and escorts you to a tricked out golf cart (think of what Bentley would come up with if they made golf carts).

When you arrive inside the hotel (think villa/mansion) on a bluff overlooking the Mediterranean, a receiving line of 5 people assemble with military precision to welcome you with a sincere, open heart. You’re then taken out to the veranda, which overlooks the ocean, to do a proper check in – while you’re being served delicious snacks and a cocktail. Over snacks you get to know the JK Place Capri hotel manager Samuel Porreca (we’ll get to him later).

I won’t go into all the details about how perfectly he orchestrated every single detail, but I will tell you it was no less than amazing. Imagine that every restaurant you go to is expecting you with a reserved sign on the table and a chilled glass of champagne. How about the hottest beach club in Capri, with a line out the door and when you arrive you’re taken directly to a waiting lounge chair with the best private view of the ocean. The JK Place in Capri can open doors on this island like I have never seen a hotel do. It’s so much more than that. These people are just cool. I mean these are people who you genuinely want to hang out with. Before you go out at night, they set up h’ourderves in their library that are made from all local ingredients and are incredible! You have your own personal bar man who remembers what you like, what you don’t and creates custom cocktails for you to try.

When you come home at night (because that’s what it feels like) you have someone who will ask you about how everything went. Everyone in that hotel knows who you are and where you went. It’s like they stick a GPS on you. It’s freaky. I guess I’ll stop here, because I really could go on for days. This place is not cheap. Though, in my opinion you get 100 times your money’s worth. In fact, I’m not sure you can even put a price on it.

Entertainment has a long story in the world of organized business

entertainer coachEntertainment has a long story in the world of organized business. A lot of companies have accomplished the benefits of having a social role for their employees which supplies them with an essential mental break and the chance to arise as a team. Frequently a company is going to rent a band or D.J. to supply it, even though what is proving progressively popular is renting a comedian. Having the correctly comedian at a charity golf day or Christmas party is able to create the difference between a good event and a big one! Companies are occasionally concerned about applying a comedian in one of their functions.

They look comedians as being offensive. Although this is frequently the case while watching a comedian in a club or on DVD, it’s possible to rent one with a clean act which it will not solvent in an embarrassing situation in front of the company manager or client. Doing work clean doesn’t mean that the comedian won’t be as funny. To actually make certain it’s likely worth watching a comedian’s tape (show reel) to see whenever they’re actually the one for you. By now you could be thinking about the price of renting an entertainer coach. A word of warning: don’t go with the lowest cost. That doesn’t mean that the highest cost is most beneficial either. What can occur is that you find out your entertainer coaches on the internet or the phone book and they could be a second rate performer only out to construct a quick buck

The Railroad, A Book, And A Dam

The Railroad, A Book, And A Dam

The Railroad, A Book, And A DamA hundred years ago Branson, Missouri was just a patch of wilderness in the quilt of the Ozarks. Then along came the railroad, a book and a dam and now Branson is known as “Little Las Vegas.”

1903 brought the railroad to Branson. This allowed easy access for tourists looking for some quiet time away from the busy city life.

Harold Bell Wright’s best selling book, Shepherd of the Hills, brought national attention to the natural resources found in Branson. It didn’t hurt when John Wayne was in a 1941 movie version of the book either. Since 1959, The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Theater has performed this Ozark story and is considered the most performed outdoor drama in the U.S.

Congress gave its permission in 1911 for the Powersite Dam. When they built the dam it, in turn, created Lake Taneycomo and a lake resort town was born. When we visited the area, we were struck by the beauty of the mountains as you roll closer and closer to town and by the many things to do once you get there.

A visit to Branson is a treat for all ages and tastes. Outdoor addicts can find fantastic fishing and more. For the shopper, there is a great outlet mall, which was my personal favorite. If you want to be entertained it has everything from theaters to country music legends. For the kids, there are a couple of theme parks. And it only took a railroad, a book and a dam. Oh, and maybe a hundred years of progress helped, too.
