By: Don Campbell From sleeping oblivion My eyes open to digits It's 7:00am and time To get up for school I walk to my daughter's room Sing song it's time To get up for school --Get up for school I go back to bed Put on a CD to help My wife to open Her eyes and mind Then I wrap around Her back and legs While Rush plays Afterimage on the clock radio Kyla walks in And joins the hug Squeezing in front Of her mami Who declares this is A "familia sandwich" And "Quien canta?" "Tu papa americano!" I tell her it's Rush "Are they a group?" Yes, they're from Canada The most famous band I don't tell her it's A Russian disc But I find it fun To know my life Is international again As they get up Before Red Sector A's over (a song about a concentration camp) I realize I have Another poem today And all I have to do now Is write words to remember The feeling of the love In a family sandwich And the need to get up To live another day Starting happy Despite a cold And my wife telling me "You take Kyla to school." |
