Mongolia, 1930 By Gary C. Wilkens Eternal opal sky over tan steppe- two riders upon small galshar gallop across the wild thyme. They ride roughly on khargana, tamarisk, waves of pale grass- a new day breaking them apart, one back towards a stand of yurts, the other swiftly south, towards cities, hard roads, gray towers of smoke- markers of the new world century with its universities, business and wealth. A single cloud curls across both worlds, the only band love requires. |
