Contributors' Bios Gerard Sarnat - Gerard Sarnat splits time between his Northern California forest home and Southern California's beaches, where he and his wife care for their first grandson. Gerry is a father of three, seeker and Jewbu, physician to the disenfranchised, past CEO and Stanford professor, and virginal writer 'til the recent tender age of sixty. He has been published or is forthcoming in EZAAPP, The Hiss Quarterly, Pens on Fire, Poets Against War, Thieves Jargon, and Underground Voices. "Just Like the Jones'," about his experience caring for Jonestown survivors, was solicited by The Jonestown Annual Report and will appear later this year. Gerry is currently working on an epic prose poem, "The Homeless Chronicles." He has been accepted into a four person writers' cooperative by The California Institute of Arts and Letters; Pessoa Press plans to publish his first book within one or two years. David Caplan - David's work has appeared in the Chicago Reader, Lost Magazine, and Potpourri. He works as a writer for a company that produces materials about tax law. Jennifer Mazik - My name is Jennifer Mazik and I am 23 years old. Currently, I am a fourth year student at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. My major is English, Writing Option. After I graduate, I plan to work for a magazine focusing on lifestyle (travel, food, art & culture). One of my goals is to travel the world, a dream I have had since I was teenager. I think it is amazing how people can find some common ground over learning each others' ethnicities. Whether it is through cooking, conversation or through photographs, either way a relationship is formed. In the same way, my mission with my writing is to inspire people through my words, touch their souls. Hopefully, this will inspire my readers to do something great with their lives. Inspire them to want to learn more about the world. Recently, I started a blog for my creative nonfiction class. Even though my class has just finished, I plan on continuing my blog. Perhaps, it will take a life on its own. David Halliday - I graduated from the University of Windsor with a Master’s degree in philosophy. For several years I lived in Belgium where I married. Our son was born there. I returned to Toronto where my wife and I were blessed with two more children, girls. I live in a house in the midst of the Six Points area, now a suburb of the city of Toronto. Mick Joyce - Doctors can sometimes be wrong. This was especially true before technology became the cornerstone of diagnosis. Mick Joyce proved this to be the case. After his traumatic birth, doctors said that, because of his cerebral palsy, Mick would never read or write much less go to school. In college, at Southwest Minnesota State University, Mick studied creative writing and political science, and became active in the disability rights movement. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mick studied urban and regional planning and public administration and earned two masters' degrees. At the Trace Center, he was introduced to augmentative communications, which he still uses. Using technology, and a positive attitude, Mick stays involved with his Community through his writing. He works at jobs in the Madison area on "soft funds" while he writes poetry and essays and continues to look for permanent employment. Sandra M. McDow - Sandra McDow is an Oregon writer with a love for good fiction, German Shepherds, rivers, mountains and the many faces of man. Professionally, she has been a teacher, school administrator, learning disabilities specialist and life-time student. She has a private consulting and evaluation practice, and continues to do post-doctoral studies in areas of her interest. Julio Peralta-Paulino - Julio Peralta-Paulino is a writer currently at work on several projects. Some of his publication credits include Smokebox, Write Between The Lines, and Jack Magazine. Stephen Dorneman - Stephen Dorneman is an occasional MFA student, occasional Quantitative Analyst, living in Boston and workshopping at Boston's Grub Street writer's collective. G. David Schwartz - The former president of Seedhouse, the online interfaith committee, Schwartz is the author of A Jewish Appraisal of Dialogue. Currently a volunteer at Drake Hospital in Cincinnati, Schwartz continues to write. His new book, Midrash and Working Out Of The Book is now in stores or can be ordered. |
